Calling out a plumber in Cyprus: what to do first and what to ask

Last updated 16 October 2026

If water is leaking, turn off the main stopcock first, and switch off electricity to anything that is getting wet. Then call a plumber and ask three things before they set off: the call-out charge, how they price the work after that (hourly or fixed), and when they can arrive. Photos of the leak or blockage sent by message help the plumber bring the right parts.

Before the plumber arrives

  • Find the main stopcock (often near the water meter or under the kitchen sink) and turn it off.
  • If water is near sockets or appliances, switch off that circuit at the board.
  • For a leak from the solar water heater or roof tank, turn off the supply to it if you can do so safely.
  • Take photos and a short video. It helps the plumber diagnose and quote.
  • If you are in a flat, warn the neighbour below.

How call-outs are usually priced

Many plumbers charge a call-out or visit fee, then labour by the hour or a fixed price for the job, plus parts. Out-of-hours and weekend visits often cost more. None of this is standard across Cyprus, so ask for the structure before agreeing.

Questions to ask

  • What is the call-out fee, and is it deducted if I go ahead with the repair?
  • Is the work charged hourly or as a fixed price? Does that include VAT?
  • Do you carry common parts, or will you need a second visit?
  • Do you work on solar water heaters and pressure pumps?
  • Will you give me a written receipt describing the work?

Common jobs in Cypriot homes

Leaks under sinks and from flexible hoses, blocked drains, toilet cisterns that keep running, low pressure (often a pump or tank issue), and solar water heaters that leak or stop heating. If you see white limescale build-up on taps, showerheads or the heater, mention it.

Find a plumber

Request a plumber in Limassol, Paphos, Nicosia or Larnaca. Plumbers who cover your area contact you directly. If the trader treats you unfairly, the Consumer Protection Service takes complaints on 1429.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do first if a pipe bursts?

Turn off the main stopcock, switch off electricity near the water, and move valuables. Then call a plumber.

Do plumbers in Cyprus charge a call-out fee?

Many do, especially for urgent and out-of-hours visits. Ask for it before they set off and whether it is deducted from the repair.

Can a plumber fix my solar water heater?

Many plumbers repair solar water heaters, tanks and pressure pumps, but not all. Mention it in your request so the right person responds.

Why is my water pressure low?

Common causes are a failing pressure pump, a low roof tank, limescale in pipes or a fault on the supply. A plumber can test which.
