What to know

  • 1

Say what each item is made of if you know, and photograph any care label; it tells cleaners which method to use.

  • 2

Tell the cleaner what caused each stain and whether you’ve tried something on it already.

  • 3

Fabric needs time to dry, so book well before guests arrive or the day you hand back a rental.

  • 4

We send your request to up to 3 local cleaners who cover your area; say clearly it’s a carpet, sofa or mattress job, and the ones who do this work can contact you.

What to put in your request

List each item and roughly how big it is: a three-seater sofa, two armchairs, a rug about two by three metres, a double mattress. Say what each one is made of if you know (fabric, leather, wool), and what any stains are and how old. Mention pets or smoking at home, which floor you’re on, whether there’s a lift, and where a van can park. Photos of each item, and of the care label, help cleaners quote properly.

Check the care label

Some sofas and armchairs have a label under the seat cushions with a cleaning code. W means water-based cleaning is fine, S means solvent only, WS means either, and X means vacuum only, no liquids. Photograph the label and add it to your request, so cleaners know which method to use.

At home or taken away

Sofas, mattresses and fitted carpets are usually cleaned at your home with a portable machine. Loose rugs can be cleaned on site too, but wool, silk or handmade rugs are often better collected and washed at a workshop. Ask which the cleaner offers, and if a rug is collected, when it comes back.

Drying time

After a wet clean, fabric needs time to dry. Open the windows or run a fan or the air conditioning, and keep off the sofa until it’s dry. Ask the cleaner what to expect, and book well before guests arrive or the day you hand back a rental.

Stains, smells and pets

Tell the cleaner what caused each stain and whether you’ve already tried something on it, because some home remedies make stains harder to shift. Some old stains can be lightened but not removed, so ask what’s realistic before they start. Pet accidents need a treatment for the smell as well as the stain, so mention them.

Leather, delicate fabrics and mattresses

Leather is cleaned and conditioned rather than washed. Velvet, linen and silk need gentle methods, and not every cleaner works on them, so say what you have. For a mattress, give the size and say whether both sides need cleaning.

End of tenancy and holiday rentals

If your tenancy agreement asks for the carpets to be professionally cleaned, check whether your landlord wants a receipt. Book the carpet clean with or straight after the general end-of-tenancy clean, so everything has time to dry before the inspection. For a holiday rental, ask whether the cleaner can work between bookings.

How quotes work

You describe the job once. We send it to local cleaners who cover your part of Limassol: up to 3. Say clearly that it’s a carpet, rug, sofa or mattress job, so cleaners who don’t do this work can pass. The ones who can help contact you directly to ask questions and quote. Ask whether the price includes stain treatment, and agree it in a message before the visit. Ergo doesn’t set prices, take payment or employ the cleaners.

FAQ

How often should carpets and sofas be cleaned?

It depends on how much they’re used. Homes with pets or young children usually need it more often. Good times are before moving in or out, after a spill, or when vacuuming no longer lifts the dirt.

Can every stain be removed?

Not always. Fresh stains are easier than old ones, and some dyes and bleach marks are permanent. Send photos and ask the cleaner what they think is realistic before the visit.

How long will the sofa take to dry?

It depends on the fabric, the method and the weather. Ask the cleaner when you can use it again, and keep the room aired.

Do I need to move the furniture?

Ask the cleaner when you book. It helps to clear small items, cushions and anything fragile from the area beforehand.

Can you clean a leather sofa?

Leather needs its own cleaning and conditioning products, and not every cleaner does it. Say it’s leather in your request, so the right cleaners respond.

Are the products safe for children and pets?

Ask the cleaner which products they use and how long to keep children and pets off the furniture afterwards.

Can a cleaner come the same day?

Sometimes. Say when you need it in your request, and cleaners who are free will tell you.

Is Ergo a cleaning company?

No. Ergo is a request website. We pass your request to local cleaners who cover your area, and you deal with them directly. We review each sign-up, but the cleaner you hire is responsible for the work.

Can I write my request in English?

Yes. Describe the job in your own words in English. If you’d like a cleaner who speaks English, say so in your request, so the ones who do can get in touch.
