What the requests look like

Handyman requests are usually a short list rather than one big job: assemble two wardrobes and a bed from a flat-pack store, mount a TV on a concrete wall, put up shelves and curtain rails, fix a roller shutter that is stuck, replace a torn flyscreen, adjust a sliding door that no longer closes, reseal a shower tray or touch up paint before a tenant moves out. Customers list what they need and can add photos, so you can tell whether it is a quick stop or a half-day visit and which tools and fixings to bring. You receive requests only in the cities you pick and only for the job types you choose, and you agree the price, by the hour or for the whole list, with the customer before you start.

Questions from handymen

How we use your details · All trades

What kind of jobs will I see?

Furniture assembly, TV and shelf mounting, small repairs, door, window, shutter and flyscreen fixes, painting touch-ups and silicone sealing. Larger work such as electrical or plumbing jobs goes to those trades.

Can I turn down a job?

Yes. You only call the customers whose jobs you want. There is no penalty for not responding to a request.

Can I price by the hour?

Yes. How you price is between you and the customer. Explain clearly whether you charge by the hour or for the job, and whether materials are included.

Do customers expect me to bring fixings?

Where they say, the request shows it. If not, ask when you call, especially for wall mounting where the right plugs and screws matter.

Can I say what I will not do?

Yes. Write it in the “About your work” box, for example no work at height, no tiling or no jobs outside your city. We use it to decide which requests to send you, and you can change it later by email.

Is it free to join?

Free during launch. We may introduce fees later; we’ll give at least 30 days’ notice and fees will apply only after you accept them. The full terms for professionals are on the pro terms page.

Do you take a commission?

No. You quote the customer and they pay you directly. We never take a commission on the job price. Ergo is free during launch, with 30 days’ notice before any fees.

Can I choose my cities and how much work I get?

Yes. You pick the services and cities you cover and tell us how many new jobs you can take each week.

How will I receive requests?

Once we’ve reviewed your sign-up, we send matching requests by WhatsApp, phone or email, including the customer’s contact details, which they have agreed to share.

How do I stop receiving requests?

Email us or reply STOP to any message and we stop sending you requests.

What do you do with my details?

We use them to send you requests and run your account. See our privacy policy for what we keep and for how long.
